25th Annual Muzzy Classic Bowfishing Tournament Final Standings
With 97 teams registered, the 25th Annual Muzzy Classic was a record-breaker, and proof that the participants were happy to support this bowfishing event, which took things back to its roots on the Tennessee River.
The June 22-23, 2024, Classic hosted at the scenic Marshall County Park along the Tennessee River in Guntersville, Alabama, brought back the feel of old school tournaments with an initial Meet and Greet on Friday night, which was a huge success. Socialization and story-telling of what this year’s participants had seen during the previous week brought even more stoke to an already lit bowfishing fire. Entertainment from Brandon Elder, and appearances from Rut Daniels, Randy Birdsong, Nate Hosie, and Laden Force made the hours move by quickly, while the talented team from The Given Right chronicled the event.
After weighing thousands of pounds of fish, team Descalin' (above) stood at the top of the podium — a place where they’re no strangers. Their impressive haul of 526 pounds boated a first place prize of $12,000. The Dad’s once again brought their A game to arrow 404.35 pounds for a second-place finish, while team On Track tipped the scales at a whopping 391.5 pounds. The Dad’s took home a cool $5,000, with On Track walking away with $3,000.
A tight competition from top to bottom with just over 58 pounds separating 4th-10th place, the competition was stacked almost as high as the carp!
Teams taking 4th-10th and their final weights were as follows: 4th Dusk Til Dawn 372.1; 5th TKO 367.8; 6th Loggerheads 366.3; 7th Mountain Men 344.35; 8th Renegade 331.85; 9th Common outlaws 323.55; 10th ERDC 314 pounds.
“It was so great seeing so many familiar faces and a lot of new faces this year,” said FeraDyne Outdoors Archery General Manager Chris James. “We are incredibly proud of our team pulling this event off so smoothly due to all of the hard work they put into planning and execution. The weather was great and teams found some great fish, overall we couldn’t ask for a better outcome for this event. We are already planning the 2025 Muzzy Classic and have plans to make it even bigger.”

Pope and Young Launches Deer Slam Raffle
Pope and Young has launched the biggest raffle in conservation, and it’s your chance to complete your deer slam with some of North America’s top outfitters. Specifically, this is a chance to pursue all five North American deer species and support bowhunting conservation.
Grand Prize: Up to five deer hunts (depending on species previously harvested). Grand prize winner will receive hunts for all species within the recognized five species of North American deer that they have not previously taken with archery equipment. Grand prize winner is GUARANTEED at least two hunts even if they have taken all five species with a bow.
Remaining Hunts: After deer hunts are confirmed by the grand prize winner, up to three additional winners will be drawn for the deer hunts that remain available.

USA Archery Announces 3D Equipment Grant Opportunity for Clubs
Thanks to generous contributions from the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, USA Archery clubs in good standing are invited to complete the Club 3D Equipment Grant Application. The application deadline is Sept. 15, 2024, and successful recipients will receive a 10 Target pre-set mix of 3D targets.
USA Archery offers a wide variety of archery programs that provides a road map for young athletes to participate and grow with long-term athlete development in mind. Currently, USA Archery offers numerous grassroots target archery programs including Explore Archery, Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Adult Archery Achievement, as well as local and state championship events.
This grant is another exciting opportunity for USA Archery clubs to expand program offerings to include 3D Archery. USA Archery is currently working with a select group of states to offer 3D state championships in the fall of 2024, and in partnership with the Archery Shooters Association, will host the USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals event in October.

S3DA Hosts 12th Annual Eastern 3D National Championship
The Scholastic 3D Archery program (S3DA) recently held its 12th annual S3DA Eastern 3D National Championship in Rend Lake, Illinois. Archers from 118 teams across 18 states participated for their chance to be crowned a National Champion in their division and class. The event also featured bonus activities, which included the Delta McKenzie Bowhunter Challenge, Heath McDonald Long Shot Challenge, and 365/Kong Archery Challenge.
The Delta McKenzie Bowhunter Challenge and 365/Kong Archery Challenge featured pairs of archers (with the focus being on adult/youth teams) who both shoot various 3D targets. These activities aim to bring enhanced family involvement to the event as well as tying in the conservation aspect of the S3DA program.
S3DA National Conservation Coordinator Patty Reel said, “The Eastern S3DA 3D National event is always a blast! I enjoy setting up the conservation booth and showcasing various mounts and furs, as this typically leads to conservation-centered conversations with archers and their families. One of my favorite things to do at Rend Lake is taking some time outside the tournament and go fishing with the kids. Fishing can offer a child a host of benefits, from improving patience and focus to fostering a lifelong appreciation for nature.”
Illinois DNR hosts an annual free fishing weekend, which happens to fall on the same weekend as the S3DA National Tournament. S3DA National Conservation Coordinator Patty Reel and other S3DA staff members worked together to add several fishing workshops to the tournament schedule. S3DA provided fishing equipment and bait for children, while Patty accompanied them to the lake to teach them what fishing is all about.
S3DA welcomed longtime sponsors Lancaster Archery Supply and Bohning, as well as a host of other vendors that included Arrow Engineering Products (AEP), Mark’s 3D Targets, 365 Archery, Clear Targets, and B3 Archery as they set up to sell their products to archers and their families.
Collegiate archery programs such as University of the Cumberlands, Union College, Lindsey Wilson, Southern Illinois College, Campbellsville University, Kentucky Christian, and University of Montevallo, among many others, offered young adult archers significant scholarship opportunities during the event.
