3 Point-of-Purchase Products for Outdoorsmen

Customers probably won’t enter your store looking for these three items, but chances are good if they see them on display that they’ll walk out the door with one — or more.

3 Point-of-Purchase Products for Outdoorsmen

Customers enter your store for many reasons. Some know exactly what they want because they’ve done a lot of online research, and the final step in making their purchase is shooting their dream bow, or trying on a daypack to ensure it fits correctly, etc. Of course, you get a fair number of “tire kickers” too; these outdoorsmen and women are interesting in looking at new gear, but unless something really catches their eye, they probably won’t be handing you their credit card.

One way to drive a sale with anyone who enters your store is by showcasing a few point-of-purchase items that are likely to appeal to a wide variety of people. This concept isn’t new, of course. Simply visit your local grocery store or big-box store and you’ll see smartly placed (and heavily researched) products within arm’s length of the cash register. These items are there for no other reason than to turn on your “I want (or need) that item right now” lightbulb. In other words, the customer is buying on impulse.

You should take a hint from these other retailers by adding point-of-purchase products on or near your checkout counter. Here are three ideas that might work well to catch the eye of men and women who love the outdoors.

Beef Jerky and Snack Sticks From Wenzel’s Farm

Do you know a hunter, shooter or angler who doesn’t like beef jerky? Me neither. It’s classic roundtrip food, and it’s great in the deer stand or boat, too. Rather than hand this easy sale to a gas station or grocery store, why not take the cash yourself?

Two product lines I enjoy are from Wisconsin-based Wenzel’s Farm, a premium provider of high-quality, hand-crafted, small-batch meat snacks. The first is the company’s Beef Jerky. It’s delicious, has no artificial colors, no MSG, and is gluten free. It contains 10 grams of protein per serving and is only 90 calories. Wenzel’s Beef Jerky is available in three flavors: Original (my favorite), Teriyaki and Peppered. It can be purchased in 3-ounce (MSRP $6.49) or 10-ounce ($16.99) packages.

In addition to Wenzel’s Beer Jerky, I like the company’s Snack Sticks offerings (MSRP $31.99/16-count box of 2-ounce packs). Available in a dozen flavors, including the newest, Jalapeno Cheddar, Snack Sticks are crafted in small batches using premium cuts of beef, seasoned for flavor and naturally smoked. Like the company’s Beef Jerky, its Snack Sticks have no artificial colors, no MSG, and are gluten free. Of course, Wisconsin is known for its cheese, and the new Jalapeno Cheddar stick features real Wisconsin cheddar.

myCharge AdventurePlus H20 Portable Charger

It’s frustrating — and potentially dangerous — to have your phone die in the field while hunting or fishing. To ensure you always have battery power, it makes sense to carry a portable charger. One I’ve discovered recently that has worked well is the myCharge AdventurePlus H20 Portable Charger.

Specifically, I’ve been impressed with the Adventure H20 6700 portable charger (MSRP $39.99). It has an insulated, ruggedized exterior case that protects it from extreme weather temperatures, and it’s completely waterproof with an IP67 rating. It gives me peace of mind to know my charger will be fully functional even if I drop it in the lake.

I especially like that this charger has two USB ports, meaning I can charge two devices simultaneously. It provides 3.5 extra charges for my iPhone.

It’s compatible with Apple iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, XS, XS Max, XR, X, 8, 7, 6, SE, 5, iPad, iPod, Samsung Galaxy, LG, Motorola, HTC, Nokia, Blackberry and any other standard USB device. As you can see in the photo below, the Adventure H20 charger includes a built-in carabineer that can be attached to a bag, belt or anywhere else for convenience.

Zone Realtree Insect Repellent Spray

Odorless ZONE Realtree Insect Repellent Spray (MSRP $9.99/4-ounce) was designed with the outdoorsman in mind. Picaridin-based (20% formula), and offering 12-plus hours of protection from mosquitoes, ticks, flies, fleas, chiggers, gnats and no-seeums, Zone Realtree Insect formula is safe (DEET-free), effective and ideal for those wanting to fool the nose of deer and other big game.

I like that Zone insect repellent not only works well on bugs, but its formula is also non-oily, non-greasy and non-sticky, and it won’t harm hunting/fishing clothing or gear. Even though this bug spray was designed for hunters, it’s safe for the whole family. Finally, I very much like that it’s made in the U.S.A. by EPA-approved factories.
